My son was diagnosed with Spina Bifida inutero around my 20th week of pregnancy. Since that diagnosis and his birth 6 years ago (FYI he's the cute little dude in the yellow :) ) I have been completely inspired. Watching his daily strength, courage, perseverance and patience has moved me in ways I can not describe in words. No matter what my little babe is dealing with he is always smiling ALWAYS happy.
He has inspired me so much so that I have become deeply involved in the special needs community. I've gotten to know many other parents and kids dealing with similar circumstances. Every single one of them as equally amazing. I've learned about all sorts of conditions I never knew existed.
These kids sparked this idea. I wanted to create something that would portray how amazing these children are. I wanted something that would show their unity as a reminder that we/they are never alone. Most importantly I wanted to raise awareness. I wanted to get people thinking about these disorders, because like so many others out there, until our own diagnosis...I had not a single clue.
I chose a "rainbow" theme to reflect the symbol of hope that they stand for. These kids are getting life right. They take nothing for granted and are thankful for everything. They are happy just to BE, and I think so many of us out there need reminded of that.
