To find out more about the record-breaking snowfall in Binghamton, Bored Panda reached out to one of its residents, Zach, who goes by the Twitter handle @zcoonick6. Zach shared a photo of the street in snow-buried Binghamton with the caption “Waking up to 40” of snow this morning.”
Zach told us that he woke up at 3:30 am last night, checked outside, and was completely surprised. “I was expecting to see my cars in the driveway but instead it was just massive piles of snow. It’s not something you expect to wake up to.”
“As of this morning, they have plowed our roads just once to make them passable. Pretty much all of yesterday, the roads weren’t touched so travel was impossible.”
When asked how the residents were prepared for so much snow, Zach explained that living where he lives in New York, anytime there is a snowstorm on the way, “you are prepared to a certain extent.”
“For this one, most of the weather stations were talking about 9-16 inches, maybe 20 in some spots, but nothing like we ended up getting. (Officially 42”). So we were a little caught off guard, but it is par for the course in the Northeast.”
Fortunately, Zach assured us that everyone is doing well right now. “The state of emergency was lifted today and I think by the end of today, everyone will be dug out.”
“I know that my family and I are happy that we will be getting a white Christmas this year,” Zach said and added: “unless 2020 strikes for the final time and melts all that snow in a week!”
