First of all I have to start out with I have always wanted a Sphynx cat. Over 40 years my parents, roommates , money or boyfriends have always stopped me . I have owned a service dog for 10 years now and in New Jersey I did not want to have a service dog I asked for a service cat. A cat that was dying in vets want to put down I saved his life he was my first service cat for many years named Karma.
Karma brought me a boyfriend who wasn't even a cat fan but after they met he used to bring Karma donuts blueberry his favorite.
After living in 48 states I know for both my physical and mental health it was time for me to go back down to Florida and make it my only residency. My boyfriend and me had a few wonderful cats but I still felt like I wanted a Sphynx and he thought they were ugly.After almost 3 years of dating living in a camper trailer full time we finally bought a house more room for the animals and us.
my birthday is memorial Day weekend May 27th the Friday night my boyfriend gave me the best gift I've ever had in my life his cell phone and showed me Sphynx kittens said we're picking one up tomorrow pick two or three to you like she'll meet us at a parking lot. I picked between one brother and one sister. The next day I was flying high on the car ride 2 hours away to go finally be the proud owner of a Sphynx. When she put the boy in my arms he just held onto me for dear life and did not want to leave unlike his sister who was squirming and crying I gave it back to the lady I knew that the boy was the one. By the end of my birthday weekend he was named Andre.
I immediately took him everywhere I went instead of taking my service dog . Spoiled him bought him tons of clothing sunscreen and some of the best kitten can and dry food around. he was the most laid-back loving kitten and less there was food out then we would call him angry Andre boy he has a healthy set of lungs and no problem using them. My boyfriend fell in love with Andre just as much as I did and we also made an Instagram.
At a doctor's visit I talked to them and asked if I could start training Andre my Sphynx instead of my big German shepherd wolf hybrid. Once I got my doctor's okay Andre started going everywhere as a service animal in training.
Since I'm disabled with both physical and mental health issues some going back to hereditary traits and not good upbringing and horses young literally flipping over or experienced falling on me jumping service animals have done many things for me and I definitely need them out in public. I retired my service cat Karma and I retired my service dog Amo and put all my effort in Andre. Andre has gone everywhere with me from the bank to Walmart to Lowe's where he is a favorite. my female doctor I didn't see because she did not like dogs I can start seeing her again and boy did she fall in love with Andre.
my neighbor down the road and me had always talked about bringing one of my service animals to two different assisted living homes that she goes to being the church chaplain she sings and does a short sermon. We immediately agreed let's take Andre and started joining her on Thursday mornings. The joy that he brought to almost everybody's face from the residence to the nurses to the janitors is incredible. The one lady named Ruth loves him so much she asked if we can make sure we bring them to her 99th birthday at the assisted living home and also the church party we said yes of course!
He is loved by my medical transportation that I take I do not have a car because I can't afford one on disability and I am very grateful for this medical transport always being welcoming to all my animals especially André.
Sadly a few weeks ago my service cat, passed away from tumors cancer and fluid in his chest. turning 7 months old October seven Andre has a lot on his plate and he steps up to bat gladly to replace Karma. when I'm upset and I'm about to get loud and rowdy he starts crying as an alert something's wrong with my mom it's like he's saying which also makes me realize I don't have to get loud and rowdy or be upset people know that something's going on unlike my service dogs. when I last saw my doctor and I had to get needles stuck in my neck and I hate needles I'm phobic of them she gave me per therapy and purred through every needle until I said ouch and then he cried to let people know something wrong is wrong with me. Not even 7 months old this cat is doing his job for me and others around me making all our lives easier.
I will admit they are like potato chips you don't want to just have one even though Andres best friend is my Siamese Beijo I truly felt I needed another and my boyfriend agreed. We purchased a beautiful calico with very unique markings and picked her up at the end of September. Asti is it total different cat than Andre she does not have his angry feed me cries but she is so in love with me and my boyfriend within 24 hours. You call her name she comes running she cries and wants to climb up the second you go to touch her she purrs. she came to us a little under the weather so she is not going to start her training until the end of October early November but she has met all of our neighbors and they adore her she does the same with them put her in your hands and she purrs.
My relationship at home is not perfect with my boyfriend all my cats push me through the difficult times. But there's just something about owning Sphynx cats it's like they can see into your soul there's nothing you can hide. A lot of my health issues are getting better or at least a lot more manageable nowadays because of these cats.
when I saw my friends article about her daughter and her Sphynx cats on here I knew I wanted to take the time and write another article so let everybody know how fabulous this breed is but how wonderful it is having a service cat instead of a dog also. I change the Instagram account to adventuresofAstiAndre because that is the truth it is all about their adventures them growing up me change and being a better person and also making a lot of people's lives happier and healthier. I will leave with this I wish my two could understand and read this article and know how much I love them .
