The french Grand Est region has always been a special area in terms of borders. Over the centuries, the area has often been disputed to expand its territory. During the two world wars it was once again a central area. After these two wars ended, many memorials were erected throughout the region. Today, it is not uncommon to find on the various roads a sign indicating a monument in the area. While some are fairly well known, others are more confidential and are mainly linked to memory tourism.
I wanted to highlight some of these monuments. During my visits, I quickly assimilated them to an sentinels. Like guardians of memory and place, they sit enthroned on the top of a hill or in the middle of a forest. In order to showcase them, I decided to highlight them to make them shine once more and not to forget the events that are at the origin of their creation.
