This work is to comfort and encourage all beings on the planet at this sorrowful, morphing and difficult to fathom moment.
This piece I kept for myself (artists often regret selling a particular work, but I felt that this is one of my finest, and am so glad I have it, although finances were tight and not selling was a quandary then). While I make work which comes straight from my heart, working solo — I love to make work to commission incorporating the
This represents heaven to me. Privately, I call it 'God', as every morning when the sun comes through the old lead of the window onto the redwood wall this hangs upon, the surface comes alive and I feel great joy.
My studio work as a whole is mostly abstract and about the topical— it is meant to inspire reflection and dialogue about the complex issues which occupy our hearts and minds.
I incorporate an array of materials to create textural and symbolic interest. The painting above includes bits of iridescent insect shells which are discarded once the Indonesian villagers consume the nutritious insect body.
The beauty of the shells — that food should come in such a glorious 'packaging' is poetic, and I like to feel connected with humans on the other side of the world.
Two mirror fragments reflect viewer and the greater world, and seem a portal between heaven and earth.
Turquoise is also in the painting above. The stone purifies, aligns all the chakras and has the power to prevent panic attacks, thus instilling inner calm.
Turquoise promotes self-realization and assists creative problem solving.
