Ruth Coggins has two passions; The First World War and Animation!
In 2009, Ruth planned a tribute to her Grandfather who passed away earlier in the year... After much research, she opted for a WWI based animation, where she could also pay her respects to her Great Grandfather who was an Ambulance Driver in Verdun, France, during the '14-'18 War.
A War to End No Wars, took 4 years to film and longer to produce! Being completely self taught and with no training or experience in the animation or art industry, Ruth had to teach herself how to do everything from model making, animating and editing. The animation was shot in a small room on the back of her family home; prior to this film, she had never made anything on this scale.
Sometimes things didn't always go to plan and Ruth almost gave up on various occasions, but her passion to finish the project stayed with her until she completed it.
Now completed, the film is a tribute to all of those who died, were injured or served in WWI, as well as Ruth's Granddad and Great Grandfather.
For a film that cost less than £500 to make by a complete amateur animator, it has already screened at the St. Albans Film Festival in July 2017, and is due to screen at the ANIMAZE Montreal International Animation Film Festival this coming August and the Imperial War Museum Short Film Festival in the UK later this year.
A War to End No wars, has recently had coverage on the BBC website as well as the BBC LOOK EAST Regional News Channel.
The film features the beautiful song, The Last of the Melting Snow, by the hugely talented, The Leisure Society. It is published by Notting Hill Music (UK) Limited and has been licensed courtesy of Full Time Hobby Limited.
