The Nakagin Capsule Tower // 中銀カプセルタワー //, one of the most iconic building of 1970′s japanese metabolist movement, is nowaday threatened with destruction by Real estate developers wishing to recover the field, conveniently located near the expensive Ginza ( Tokyo // Japan ) district despite the fact that it has been short-listed for the World Heritage since 1996.
Each of the 140 capsule (2.3 m (7.5 ft) by 3.8 m (12 ft) by 2.1 m (6.9 ft) ) composing the tower was fully designed to accommodate individual or family in a truly futuristic mood. But nowedays the entire building , probably contaminate with Asbestos, fall in decay ... and the sign “No visit! No trespassing!” plus a mute janitor welcomes the most curious visitors.
Nevertheless those bad omens some enthusiasts "archi-lover" tried their best to save the iconic tower thanks to worlwide crowdfunding campaign. The plan ? Buy each module one buy one. and save this little part of history.
Long live Nakagin Capsule Tower !
