They’re deep into building careers, raising families, managing finances, and figuring out who they want to be. And if they don’t have it all together—well, in this economy, who really does?
What millennials do have is the spirit of their time.
They’ve lived through tech booms, global crises, highs, and lows, learning to adapt quickly and often. No matter where they are in life or how many curveballs come their way, that mix of resilience and ambition shapes who they are and makes them interesting.
So instead of focusing on the weight this generation carries, let’s look at what makes millennials, well, millennials. GWI has some pretty cool facts to back it up.
As the first generation to truly grow up online, millennials are proudly tech-savvy. You’d think newer generations would outpace them, but millennials are holding strong: 46% say they’re comfortable using new tools, ahead of Gen Z at 42%. They’ve consistently kept this lead over the past five years.
They’re also surprisingly patient when it comes to money. Seventy percent say they’d rather save up for something than buy it instantly, showing they’re pros at delayed gratification.
Managing money is a big deal for them. Thirty-six percent say it’s one of the main reasons they go online, and while 37% consider themselves good with money, 61% list financial security as a top priority.
And when they’re not working or budgeting, millennials are planning their next getaway. Twenty-six percent are eyeing a domestic trip in the next six months, and they’re 22% more likely than the average internet user to book experiences like a spa day or a live event.
But travel isn’t just about escape; it’s about making memories work practically. Millennials are 41% more likely to look for family-friendly facilities when booking accommodations, and 27% enjoy spa or retreat-style holidays. Whether it’s a trip with kids or a getaway with friends, they know how to plan it well.
