Had a coworker I became extremely close to. We'd hang out outside of work, go to dinner, all platonic but we were close. I went with him to a military ball, he drove me to pick up my dog when I adopted her, bought me pepper spray because he knew I did a lot of driving between my hometown and the city I lived in. In general he took care of me.
We lost touch for a couple years and then he shot and killed multiple police men at a black lives matter parade in Dallas. I wasn't at the parade because I was in my hometown at the time, but I knew a lot of people who were there and who were running for their lives (not knowing cops were the target) amidst the sound of bullets.
He ended up getting blown up in a parking garage.
I didn't know the perpetrator was my friend until the next morning a girl I knew from high-school called me after finding a picture of us on my Facebook. She was in news now. She told me it was him asked questions as I numbly processed the information. She later published everything I said in an article. I had news stations all over the country calling, and family I haven't heard from in years.
Hope you enjoyed your f*****g byline, Brittany, as much as I enjoyed therapy.
Still struggle with separating who he was from what he chose to do. He was very kind to me.
