One of my best friends from elementary school. I hadn't actually lost touch with him so much as I just grew up and got other friends, after I moved to an adjacent school district.
He was always the troublemaker while I was the reserved one. In what was to become a recurrence throughout my life, I realized I hung around him as an escape: he'd propose to do something zany and outrageous and definitely against the rules while I would say "no thanks, but I'll stand back here and watch."
Anyway, it turns out in high school he got into weightlifting and became a b****s. When he was about to graduate, he got a 14-year-old freshman girl drunk then sodomized her. He got arrested; I believe the charges were reduced from r**e to s****l a*****t--not sure? Anyway, he served a couple years in the state pen.
Fast forward to a couple years ago. He had broken up with his baby mama (or the other way around--probably the other way around). By all accounts he was a decent father; he was just a s****y boyfriend. He would beat his baby mama occasionally and I guess she had enough. Then one day he got in a spat with her on Facebook: he ranted about how she did not want him to be at a party because "she felt she would have a better chance to f**k some guy there."
The next day he was arrested for charges that included: r**e, breaking and entering, battery and violating parole. Turns out he forced his way into her house AFTER she barricaded her door because she was afraid of him. He made his way in to her room and videotaped him raping her on his phone (he wasn't the brightest guy). This was despite her constant pleas that their kid was in the next room.
Come to think of it, I still have him on Facebook. His account has been pretty much inactive the whole time as I believe someone had it set so nobody could post there. It's kind of sad and eerie to look at it. It does kind of suck to remember what used to be.
This is just one example. There are others. Some are more nuanced; others are of people who met the ultimate end.
