An Instagram prankster pushed the exhausted Red Baron worker to his breaking point during a late-night shift

The incident that brought Walt into the spotlight last month originally happened in August at a grocery store in White Lake, Michigan, where he worked as a direct-store-delivery employee for frozen pizza brand Red Baron.
His job involved visiting supermarkets and restocking their frozen food aisles.
On the day of the confrontation, he was already running behind schedule after staying an hour longer than planned.
That was when a content creator associated with the Instagram account @thea.ctiveworld, also known as Three Of A Kind, approached him under the pretense of asking for the time.
When Walt pulled out his phone, the prankster brought his own device close to it and played a prerecorded Apple Pay transaction sound, pretending to take $10 from him.
Walt quickly realized he was being filmed and tried to walk away, but the pranksters continued following him.
The confrontation eventually reached a checkout counter, where the exhausted employee could no longer hide his frustration.
“My life is hard enough as it is, okay? I don’t need this cr*p! You’re probably making money off of this. I can’t even pay my go**amn mortgage! And I got four kids at home. So not funny!” he told them.
He also explained that his children would already be asleep by the time he got home, and he would have to wake up at 5 a.m. to service another 10 grocery stores the following day.

A stranger launched a GoFundMe for Walt Zerod, and donations eventually climbed past $787,000

The creators tried to brush off his reaction, with one telling him, “Bro, bro, it’s just a joke! It’s just a prank.”
But despite Walt's visible distress, they uploaded the footage, which quickly spread across social media.
As the video gained traction, people began worrying that the confrontation could create problems for Walt at work or even put his job at risk.
A stranger named Luke Oakenshield decided to do something about it.
On October 27, he launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Support a Harassed Red Baron Worker,” hoping to give the father of four some financial relief.
The fundraiser quickly attracted widespread attention, and the campaign eventually raised more than $787,000 toward its $900,000 goal.
GoFundMe also stepped in to help secure the campaign and connect Walt as its beneficiary.
Luke subsequently got in touch with Walt and his partner through a WhatsApp video call to verify his identity and arrange for him to receive the donated money.
Now, on Thursday, November 5, Walt shared what he described as his final update on the official GoFundMe page.
He began by thanking everyone who had rallied behind his family, writing, “Your kind words have meant the world to my family and I this past week. I still cannot believe how much you all have rallied behind us, and I can never thank you enough.”

The father of four issued a final update and declined interviews, explaining that his family’s privacy comes first

“I’ve been able to spend lots of extra time at home with my family this week,” he said.
“After giving it a lot of thought, I’ve decided not to participate in any interviews. My family’s safety and privacy come first, and I feel this is the best decision for us. I appreciate everyone who has reached out and hope you understand.”
He also confirmed that he had decided to pause donations after one week, since the outpouring of support began.
“If you have the means and would like to continue helping others, please consider supporting another fundraiser, a local charity, or a church helping families in need this holiday season,” he wrote.
“This will be my last update as I focus on my family, and we enjoy the holidays together. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and for making my family feel so supported. We will never forget it.”
Walt's decision to pause the fundraiser before reaching its $900,000 goal struck a chord with people who had followed his story from the beginning.
“Well this final GoFundMe update from The Red Baron Worker has assured me that we could not have supported a better man,” one person wrote.
Another commented, “And he paused donations. He didn't HAVE to, but he did. God blessed that man.

Social media users praised Walt for stepping away from the spotlight instead of seeking more public attention

“That's very refreshing. Not looking to capitalize on his fame but to focus on his family. I love it,” someone else said.
“I don’t think I’ve seen anyone ever end their GFM after a week. There’s still ppl out there who are righteous and not advantageous. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving man,” one comment read.
Others said, “We helped the right person. Humility and honesty are among the most appealing traits a human can display. Walt has both in spades.”
“This is a really good guy right here. He’s handled this perfectly, and I hope the rest of his life is smooth sailing.”
Walt also received public support from Schwan's Company, Red Baron's parent company, which confirmed that it had reached out to check on his well-being.
“Following the incident, we connected directly with our team member to check on his well-being, and we continue to offer our support. We are pleased to share that he is doing well and remains a valued member of our team,” a company spokesperson previously said.
Red Baron also joined the public show of support, with its official X account posting, “He’s still here. He’s got a fan club. Including us.”
For Walt, however, the biggest takeaway from the unexpected ordeal appears to be the opportunity to spend more time at home with his family.

“This is the first time I’ve seen a GFM recipient pause donations. He seems to be such a great guy!!” one fan wrote
