During october in India we have a lot of street plays happnening around based on Indian mythological book called RAMAYAN. The adoptation of this book into plays is known as RAM-LEELA. Shurpanakha attacked Sita while they were in forest exile , but was thwarted by Lakshman, who cut off her nose and sent her back to Lanka.

Ravana kidnapped Sita, disguising himself as a mendicant, while Rama and Lakshman were away fetching a golden deer to please her.

On this day Ram killed Ravana, who had abducted Rama's wife Sita to his kingdom Lanka. Rama, his brother Lakshmana, their disciple Hanuman and an army fought a battle to rescue Sita. The story is recorded in the Hindu epic, the Ramayanam.
