There are traditional bikes and then there are over-the-top electric bikes with insane prices. Propella seeks to bridge the gap between the two with this lightweight and minimalistic design. By simplifying things, creator Ben Tarassoli has been able to cut his costs and make his line of electric bikes affordable for most.
By taking a similar approach to Apple and keeping things simple, Tarassoli was able to keep the weight of the bike under 36 pounds and still give it the ability to reach up to 20 MPH speeds. The 250-watt rear hub motor gives riders a range of 15-28 miles and can be charged in about 2.5 hours. Both the battery and motor are efficient and completely waterproof. Propella's battery pack uses Saumsung Lithium-Ion cells and is removable, lockable and comes with an easy-to-use USB output plug.
There's the chance that this ebike may soon become the norm for future generations as the trend of electric bikes takes off. The Indiegogo project is already fully funded, but with only a few days left in the campaign, I recommend pre-ordering one now!
