The prevailing interpretation of fairy tales is that women should be princesses and men should rescue them. I think a better interpretation is that we all have a princess side and a rescuer side and when the princess and prince get together at the end that means an integration of one's personality. Like in dreams you are every character in your dream. We have both yin and yang. Like Hansel and Gretl - the girl rescues her brother. The bible says "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them." I think that means God's image is both male and female, though I'm sure there are those who would disagree. So, Disney princesses are half-people, and appeal to both men and women. Our moral sense has the x-y dimensions of warmth v competence or experience v agency. We have both passive and active moral sense. Fairy tales are the wisdom traditions of ancient peoples. Trite stereotypes of princesses (junior karens) wouldn't seem that wise to people who work for a living.
