Prince William is usually seen carrying out royal duties, but his latest TV appearance gave viewers a glimpse of a rather different side of the future king. His unexpected debut on The Graham Norton Show caught people off guard, and many were surprised by his personality.
The Prince of Wales joined Hollywood star Cate Blanchett and other guests on the BBC show, making history as the first member of the royal family to appear on Graham Norton’s famous couch. While some viewers were impressed by his wit and easygoing manner, others weren’t quite as entertained.

Even the future king has his guilty TV pleasures, and Prince William’s latest revelation proves that royal life doesn’t mean missing out on the nation’s favorite reality shows. During the chat, he revealed that Celebrity Traitors has become a family favorite, with Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis particularly obsessed.
“It’s really good telly,” he said. Given how much the show thrives on suspicion and secret plots, family viewing sessions must come with plenty of theories about who’s lying to whom.
The prince also admitted that he had a little fun with EastEnders star Ross Kemp after watching him grow increasingly paranoid on the show. When the two crossed paths, the prince decided to test just how jumpy the actor had become.
“Turns out he was really jumpy!” William recalled. It seems the Traitors’ mind games had followed Ross right out of the castle, and the prince couldn’t resist having a little poke at him.
When he needs a break from royal duties and reality TV drama, the heir to the British throne turns to music and movies. He’s a big fan of Christopher Nolan, particularly The Dark Knight films, which he described as “psychologically dark and deep.”

The prince also shared a couple of career paths he considered before royal life became his destiny. As a child, he imagined himself as a policeman, believing he might be good at the job. Later, he fancied becoming a DJ, though he was refreshingly honest about his skills. “I wasn’t very good,” he admitted.
There was a bigger purpose behind William’s appearance on the show. He used the opportunity to talk about the Earthshot Prize, the environmental initiative he launched to support solutions that could help protect the planet. He explained that years of hearing bleak stories about the environment had left him wanting a more hopeful approach.
Rather than letting people get overwhelmed by doom and gloom, the royal heir wants to highlight those already making a difference and help their ideas reach a much wider audience. His goal is to bring “urgency and optimism” together, reminding people that there are practical ways to tackle environmental problems.
And if his TV appearance helped introduce that mission to a few more viewers, it was more than just a royal chat on the sofa.
The Earthshot Prize was founded by the British prince to find bold solutions to the planet’s biggest environmental problems
Prince William founded the Earthshot Prize in 2020 to find and support ideas that could help repair the planet by 2030. The initiative focuses on five major challenges: protecting and restoring nature, cleaning the air, reviving the oceans, reducing waste, and tackling climate change.
Through the Earthshot Prize, the royal heir hopes to find solutions with the potential to make a real difference and help them reach communities around the world.
Each year, 15 finalists are selected, with five winners receiving £1 million each to help expand their environmental solutions. The other finalists also receive support through the program, including opportunities to build partnerships and grow their work. The idea is to help promising projects reach more people rather than let good ideas remain small-scale successes.
By bringing environmental innovators together, the initiative aims to turn promising ideas into solutions that can make a global impact
The project also reflects William’s frustration with how environmental issues are often discussed. During his chat with Graham Norton, he explained that years of hearing gloomy stories about the planet had left him wanting a more hopeful approach.
Instead of focusing only on how bad things could get, he wanted to spotlight people already working on solutions and show what could happen if their efforts received more attention.
That mix of realism and optimism is central to the initiative. The environmental challenges are serious, but the message is that people are already developing ways to address them. By bringing together innovators, businesses, organizations, and potential supporters, the prize aims to help effective ideas grow and make a wider impact.
The 2026 ceremony is scheduled to take place in Mumbai, India, in November, bringing the project to another international stage. The event will give the initiative another opportunity to spotlight environmental work from around the world and connect its finalists with a broader audience.
For the prince, appearing on the show was a chance to introduce a wider audience to a project he hopes will turn environmental concern into practical action. But it also gave viewers a glimpse of the man behind the royal title, from his cheeky sense of humor to his love of reality TV.
Judging by the reaction to his Graham Norton debut, perhaps the future king could do with a few more evenings on the talk show circuit.
