After graduating as a Goldsmith and later as a multimedia designer, Dutch artist Gemmy Woud-Binnendijk found her true passion in photography. Driven by her love for humans, animals and a strong creative urge, she brings the past to the present in her portrait photography.
Woud-Binnendijk admits that her biggest inspiration is the old master painters of the Golden Age. Combining the techniques they used – Chiaroscuro principle and Sfumato technique in this case – she creates intricate depths by using dark and light contrasts.
By layering colors and tones, she creates soft and imperceptible transitions in her portraits which you can see below.
