Andry told us: "I've worked as a character designer in animation for more than 11 years now, and during my free time back in 2012, I started this series of illustrations with the Bat-Family for Father's Day. The idea of Batman bringing Robin and Batgirl to school just popped out, I just wanted to make something cute with these characters.
"The following Father's Day, a year later, I decided to make another one with Superman, Supergirl, and Superboy, and then other members of the Justice League (Wonder Woman, The Flash, etc...)," shared the artist about how he continued this project.
"Then I decided to try with more pop culture characters, superheroes, characters from TV series, movies, video games, etc., but not randomly chosen. What I find interesting with this series is to find the right characters who could be represented as a family, find the right bond between them."
"The parental figures I've represented are not necessarily the biological parents, it can be an uncle, a master, a leader, a protector, a new friend but older and from another dimension, a fluffy babysitter, or even an old guy who told you to take a sword because it's dangerous to go alone."
The artist told us more about what inspires him to create and how he got into art: "Literally anything inspired me, fashion, other artists' works, my family life, what I read, play and watch. After spending a year in medical school, I quickly realized that I wasn't meant for this. I've always liked to draw so I thought why not make something with it, and my parents allowed me to spend 4 years studying art and I started working in the animation industry after that. 12 years after, I'm still working in animation and couldn't be more grateful to my parents who helped me and agreed to let me leave medical school."
Andry shared the idea behind the project: "The idea of Batman bringing Robin and Batgirl to school just popped out during Fathers Day in 2012, and a year after, I worked on other characters from the Justice League and then other superheroes from Marvel Comics, video games, movies, tv-series, animation, etc... I could have told that being a father inspired me to do this series, but at that time, I wasn't a father yet. I guess I was eager to share stories of my favorite characters with my future kids."
The artist told us how he picks the characters to draw: "For this series, I mostly work on characters I know and love, but sometimes people suggest me characters that could match with the idea of parental figures and their kids. Characters are not randomly chosen, the idea is to find the right bond between them, to find the right characters who could be represented as a family of characters with a fraternal link."
Andry shared his favorite characters and universe: "Mostly characters and movies from my childhood like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, The Goonies and most recently Spider-Man (since Sam Raimi's take on the character) and the Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn completely got me with his take on this bunch of A-holes)"
The artist tells us more about himself: "I would say cruising on my longboard, (I rarely leave the house without it), playing video games and Lego, and it's even more fun when I can share these moments with my son and hopefully later with my baby girl.
Yes, I'm still a child in an adult's body and I would say that in a way, working as a character and color artist in the animation industry ("PJ Masks", "Mush-Mush and the Mushables" and currently "Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles" for Netflix) doesn't help me growing up. Paying tribute to the characters who rocked my childhood is also a way of thanking my parents for letting me watch cartoons, take me to the movies, buy toys and video games. I hope my kids will keep as many good memories as I could have when I was a child."
"I won't stop finding new Super Families. I have plenty more of them in mind, I just need to find the time to work on them between work and taking care of my very own Super Family."
