The 2013 was a turning point in life of a Polish woman and her family. That year her beloved grandmother got ill from dementia. The symptoms of this illness are inconvenient for closest family members - the afflicted person has problems with thinking and remembering the facts enough to deal with everyday tasks on their own. They also may have problems connected to emotions, language and motivation. Dementia, which comes under the most common form of Alzheimer's disease, is the cause of everyday problems in few million of families in the world. The same problems was facing Edyta Kocyk - now Polish businesswoman, entrepreneur and visioner. But first - the granddaughter of ill person.
Because person with dementia/Alzheimer disease is unable to live alone, the most important job is to ensure special, everyday care from family members who often are unable to quit job or hire full time caregiver. So this always is a challenge and big responsibility. To make this more easier, Edyta thought about a device that could monitor her grandmother remotely and send the most important informations to carer, providing a sense of security for both sides. Thanks to Edyta's visionary attitude, diligence and skills, this is not only a story about idea but the story of idea brought to reality.
Next year Edyta and her business partner - Michal Pizon started exacting, hard work under a device which is now known as Sidly Care wristband and Sidly Care mobile app/online platform. They involved in their work experts from the field of ICT (Information and Communications Technology), medicine, engineering, scientific research, business and design to create a helpful device for individual users but also for medical centres. Now Sidly wristband is a single, multifunctional band which combines functions of many previously known medical devices, providing accurate mesurements and other helpful options for family members and caregivers of ill people. The project turned out to be succesful, receiving critical acclaim, medical certification and many awards for its innovation. This shows how important is focusing on modern technologies aimed to serving our health.
The whole idea of medical wristband is based on still growing telemedicine technology which is the future of medicine in our societies. It is predicted that in our aging western society the amout of people suffering from dementia/Alzheimer will increase from 46 million now to 74.7 million in 2030 and 131.5 million in 2050. The other threat to our health are diseases associated with the cardiovascular system and late pregnancies. Also the fact of increasing amout of old people is going to require more flexible, innovative ways of taking care of our beloved ones. Here's where our needs meet telemedicine solutions delivered by most innovative companies, like Sidly, from many countries.
It's important to cultivate our awarness of dementia in the World Alzheimer Month. We have bright future in front of us and our families thanks to vulnerable young professionals as Edyta Kocyk.
