Lauren began offering end-of-life pet photo sessions after going through her own journey with grief. She lost her cat, Tilly, and wanted to honor her memory by helping others through their own losses. “After doing my first shoot and putting it out there on social media, the response was overwhelming,” she said. “It became quickly apparent that this service was much needed and very valuable to families.”

Every photo session is different; some are filled with laughter and cuddles, while others carry a heavier, quiet sadness. But what they all have in common is love. “Though love still radiates through all of the sessions I have had,” Lauren shared. She takes time to learn each pet’s story, making sure both the animal and their humans feel safe and supported. “It’s essential to meet the family where they are at emotionally, which allows for capturing genuine, candid moments.”

Lauren knows how deeply painful it is to say goodbye, which is why she approaches every session with empathy and care. If things get too emotional, she checks in with the family and doesn’t hesitate to take a break. “The pet and their family will always be my top priority,” she said. Her calm, thoughtful approach allows people to feel seen, heard, and comforted during one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Through The Tilly Project, now a worldwide network of over 450 photographers, Lauren has helped countless families preserve the memory of their pets in the most beautiful and meaningful way. “Photography offers a tangible way to hold onto the love and connection that families feel for their pets,” she explained. Her work reminds us that even in grief, there is beauty, and that the love we share with our pets never truly fades.
