International award winning photographer Rana Rankin has started a unique series of Womb Prints - photos of babies positioned as they were before they were born. Rana who is also a midwife has taken her passion and expertise on pregnancy and birth and developed a unique opportunity for new parents and a fabulous educational series for health professionals and parents to be. Mrs Rankin states "the womb pose is nothing new in the newborn photography industry; but I had never seen a photographer try and realistically replicate a womb like environment." Her images complete with lifelike placenta, umbilical cord and uterus are being well received by the midwifery and obstetric community. "The position of a baby before it is born can have a huge impact on the progress of labour and birth" and Rana believes showing parents how there baby is positioned during pregnancy is far more effective with a realistic visual.
Rana positions the babies in the positions they were in before birth and then lets them "pose" themselves, often they kick out a foot or an elbow and new mums often say "that is exactly what they did before they were born" "that darn foot was always kicking my ribs"
