Bored Panda reached out to Kylei Wang, the woman behind this emotional TikTok video, who shared her story with us.
This particular TikTok came to her through inspiration from other creators who also used this same sound to recreate pictures with their lost loved ones. “I had recently lost my grandpa about 2 months prior to making my video, so I wanted to do something to honor him and share with the rest of the world,” said Kylei.
A college student in her junior year, Kylei told us that making the TikTok was a bittersweet experience. “The feelings from losing him are definitely still raw so recreating a picture from the last time I ever got to see him was emotional for me,” she confessed.
Kylei said that losing her grandpa during the coronavirus pandemic was particularly hard because “I was not able to travel to see him for the last time. A lot of me felt separated from my emotions and especially in the beginning, it didn't quite feel real.”
The hardest part for Kylei was to accept his passing, but talking to her family and friends helped to cope with the grief. But she managed to remain strong and hopeful. “Knowing that he's in a better place also eases my conscious. I also believe that someday I'll be able to see him again,” she concluded in emotional words.
