Paper Creations Made From Scraps

I saw some amazing art work with paper on boredpanda and thought how can I create something like that? I tried notebook paper, but found it too thin. Then I tried matte board and found it impossible to cut cleanly. I then tried watercolor paper and found it cut perfectly. Thank you for checking out my work!
