I made these colourful patterns for my Masters in Illustration to raise awareness of five animals that are under threat due to the production of palm oil — the green peacock, the Sumatran tiger, the orang-utan, the great green macaw and the clouded leopard.
I firstly created the colourful animals as vectors, hand painted the flowers and leaves with watercolours and used pencils to draw the butterflies. I printed the patterns out on velvet and then had cushions made out of them.
If you want to find out more about the negative effect that palm oil production is having on animals and their habitats, please check out the WWF website and also its Facebook page which regularly covers the issue.
