My paintings of Copenhagen suddenly became strangly real as the city was locked down and deserted.
Even though my paintings haven’t been conceived from a conscious prophesy, but rather an esthetic choice, I’m struck by how much they look like today’s Copenhagen.
I work in the style of hyperrealism and each painting takes about 1-2 months to complete and during the last 15 years I've painted close to 100 of these paintings.
Canadian born artist Daniel Goldenberg lives in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he is known for his hyperrealistic and somewhat mysterious paintings of the city. Inspired by Edward Hopper and William Hammershoi Daniel Goldenberg invokes a sense of stillness and mystery by removing almost all cars and people - as well as signs, masts and anything else he finds disturbing to the atmosphere he wants.
