Beer tasting for dogs and humans
Last weekend we chose a “beer tasting and tapas” event meant specifically for dogs and their owners. We have already taken part in several dog-and-owner food and drink tasting events, and we love them very much, but this was the first time we went out to taste beer.
It was also special for me as I am not a beer drinker, but I was willing to do it for Bella and the organizers really did their best to please me, so they offered me light and fruity beers opposed to the ones that the others got.
The event started at noon. The place itself was very nice and in addition to culinary delights we also heard a little talk about brewing and the drinks we were going to taste. First the dog owners were served their more special than special beers with local tapas and then it was the dogs’ turn.
Bella could hardly wait. She sensed that if there were so many dogs present, it could only mean something good and nice which in her vocabulary means ‘food’. As soon as the dog-owners finished their beers, it was dogs’ happy hour. Besides the delicious dog bites made of natural ingredients, they could not be left without beer, could they?
Bella always consumes these small bites in seconds as if she has not eaten in weeks and people probably think that she hasn’t. She gets the beer that the others have not drunk and if she sees that there are any leftovers, she starts growling and pulls me to the dishes as if I had not given her breakfast that very morning or I starve her daily.
Dog-beer is a big favorite. According to its description it is similar to beer made for human consumption, but it is non-alcoholic and flavored with chicken broth. Whatever is in it, Bella loves it.
Bella has a very interesting, dominant character that people like, but most dogs dislike her the moment they see her. Her effect on people can be best demonstrated by the following example when one of our dear friends visited us here, in Barcelona, a few years ago. As we learned, she had lived 55 years of her life being afraid of dogs. Well, until she met Bella.
In the couple days she spent with us, her behavior towards dogs changed so much that she asked us to go to dog-friendly restaurants only so that Bella would not feel left out.
On the downside…
Bella has a similarly strong effect on dogs, but in a negative sense. Some dogs only have to look at her from the other side of the street and they already start to go mad. Unfortunately, there was a dog just like that near us and she jumped at every movement Bella made as if she was ready to attack and bite her. According to the owners of that dog, it is the owner of the smaller dog that should be concerned. Well, I was worried indeed, but luckily we managed to survive the day without a dog-fight. Because of this stress factor the day was less enjoyable than usual, but all in all, we had a nice time.
but a perfect finish of the day
That evening we watched ‘A dog’s way home’ where a dog, also called Bella finds her way back home. It just seemed to be a stylish way of ending that day.
