Spongmonkeys are outshining the presidential field as a fifth of American voters consider backing them
Nearly a quarter (21%) of American voters say they would be somewhat or very likely to vote for the world’s strangest mascot for President.
The Spongmonkeys won more support than any other independent candidate in recent polls - beating out Robert F Kennedy Jr, Jill Stein, and Cornel West.
The poll by sandwich chain Quiznos found the political appeal of its unusual mascots: the Spongmonkeys.
Spongmonkeys were first introduced in 2004 but soon left TV screens, haunting online thinkpieces and listicles on the world’s strangest mascots until their return in 2023.
More than half (52%) of US voters said they felt “confused” while 28% said they felt “frightened”. 11% felt “elated” while 7% felt “hungry”.
