A short drive from the suburb of Malad in Mumbai, a tranquil getaway from the busy streets, the honking of cars and motorbikes or even the crowded roads ( don't miss the odd cow or street dogs lazing around )… brings you to the one of the quiet beachfronts of Malad. And here along the run of beaches between Marve and Madh island lies Erangal ( Yarangal ).
I remember the first time i visited this place, it was a school picnic, we were in 3rd grade …."Beach" i screamt !!! Mom had packed sandwiches and biscuits, school chums and no school… Ahh nice !
Many years later a chance visit, made me look at this place a bit differently.
A small silent strip of beach thats all it is, but theres something to it … its intriguing like that quiet student in class…at least thats what i feel.
The local boys playing cricket in the sand, the sound of the waves and a nice view of the church just behind you, quite nice and rare for Mumbai.
The Church of St. Bonaventure, built in 1575 is a nice quiet place to visit if you're here, modest interiors and a sweet caretaker's family thats opens the door to the church for you.
A brief history of St. Bonaventure engraved in simple marble high up on the walls tells you a bit of the saint.
