Every day, since March 20, my family writes a joke on our driveway for our neighbors in Anne Arundel County, MD. Who doesn't need one more smile during a global pandemic?
The impact has been much greater that just our neighborhood. We take pictures daily and send the jokes to family and friends across the country, to elderly friends who are very secluded, to cancer patients who are trying to stay healthy during treatment, and to teleworking/homeschooling/going-out-of-their-minds parents.
This daily routine has been a great morale boost for our family. To quote Olaf from my daughter's favorite movie, "We're calling this 'controlling what you can when things feel out of control.'" Writing jokes on a driveway is such an easy thing to do. It makes us happy. It makes others happy. We would love to see more people spreading smiles as part of their days at home.
To celebrate our 40th joke, and to spread our smiles even further, this week we started an Instagram account, www.instagram.com/driveway.jokes.of.md/.
