Sugar Rush critiques our consumer driver society by presenting a coffee lounge where tables made of sugar are both produced and destroyed in a joined effort by designers and visitors.
The table is designed to fail within the first minutes our hours of use. When somebody spills a drop of hot liquid on it, it simply melts. It melts a hole, or melts away the whole table. The broken down tables are swiped together, the parts are then crushed into small crystals and reused for producing new tables. Production, use, resourcing and again production are all done within one space.
The project doesn't claim to have answers or solutions for our through away habits. It merely wants to evoke discussion and awareness amongst consumers and producers.
Sugar Rush is the first of a series of unsolicited projects that sprung from the nightmares and dreams of Atelier 010. Although the projects are very personal, the addressed themes are universal.
Atelier 010 has developed this table in collaboration with the Technical University of Delft.
