This is Mushroom, rescued from a dog slaughterhouse in Cambodia, by the Sound of animals. Mushroom was lucky not to have been one of millions of dogs, tortured and killed for their meat in South East Asia every year. The sound of animals organisation rescues dogs from the meat trade in Cambodia, and also street dogs in Thailand. They have a sanctuary in Thailand that accommodates these traumatised dogs, called the blue dream shelter.
It is estimated that 5 million dogs in Cambodia are slaughtered for their meat every year. The dog meat torture tradeis one of the most serious animal welfare issue in AsiaMany of these dogs are family pets, snatched from their owners, and forced into tiny cages. Many suffer horrendous injuries, as they are transported, without food or water. When they finally arrive at the slaughterhouses, injured, dehydrated, exhausted, petrified, and covered in their own waste. They are forced to watch in terror, their companions tortured and killed.
The Sound of animals rescues direct from the slaughterhouses. They put pressure on the Authorities to end the dog meat torture trade. They fund spay/neuter to reduce stray populations. Run high profile public awareness campaigns. Coordinate community outreach to show people that dogs are friends not food. They help the local community with vet bills, and care of their dogs. The Sound of animals has rescued hundreds of dogs from the dog meat torture trade, and found loving homes for many. If you would like to follow their journey, and help them turn public opinion against dog meat consumption, and to keep up the pressure on lawmakers, to make the industry illegal.
