Morgan Peterson is a Seattle based artist with a main focus in glass. Currently she has been making work that portrays the addictions common to life in contemporary society.
"I believe that all people, regardless of their background or pretensions, are in some way addicted to something. Some of these addictions are obvious and literal—drug abuse, for example—but some, like religious and moral judgment, are obscured by our society's rhetorical tropes. I've believe that our society's most powerful people often exploit these addictions in order to minimize discontent and unrest.
My pieces confront that hypocrisy—the way that social control is disguised as morality—in form and technique. I employ common images and replace their usual context and palate with something more alarming. Through my work, I hope to evoke in the viewer the disquiet and disturbance that our addictions—religion, consumerism, drug use, idolatry—bring out in me."

This piece is another homage to the late great Notorious B.I.G. This piece is in two parts, both of which are blown glass forms. The egg is hand cut and sand carved with around 80 hours of labor.
The American Dream, You Have To Be Asleep To Believe It

This is my still life based off of a George Carlin quote, "It's called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe in it".
This entire piece is composed of blown and hot sculpted glass with silver foil applied to the razor blade during the hot sculpting process. The Pills are all sand carved with the Ambien logo on the surface. The prescription is made of vinyl and all imagery is hand painted onto the surface.
This piece was created over multiple days in the hot shop (glass blowing studio)with 14 of my friends (who just happen to be amazing artists) to help me create the forms. After the blowing process it was about a week of cold working, grinding, polishing and carving to finish the pieces. All of these elements were made during a residency I had at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington.

This is my Ziggy Stardust Fabergé Egg. I made this as an homage to the late David Bowie. It is composed of blown, cold worked, sandblasted glass with silver gilding. The blown process took two days to create and the carving and cold working aspects took over 80 hours.
