Two people new to London - what better way to explore than to ditch the typical tourist maps and sight-seeing buses and opt for a Monopoly board instead.
We played a game of Monopoly around London and documented it as we went. Walking almost 20 miles around the city to the various locations that we landed on around the board, we managed to explore a huge area of the capital in one day - seeing places that aren’t included on usual tourist maps, like ‘The Angel’ pub in Islington, alongside more typical ones such as Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square.
Things we learnt:
1. Monopoly boards are not to scale, the walk is long and it hurts your feet – however it takes about the same time as a game of Monopoly.
2. If you can rent a place in Trafalgar Square for £100… well you can’t.
3. There’s no free parking in London.
4. People give you funny looks if you whip out a Monopoly board in the middle of Pall Mall.
