The researchers observed 20 cats who were placed in a foreign environment in three different scenarios: alone, with their owner, and with a stranger. Daniel Mills, professor of veterinary behavioral medicine at the University of Lincoln, concluded that “even if cats were more vocal when the owner rather than the stranger left them, we didn't see any additional evidence” that suggests a secure attachment between a cat and its owner.
