When we wrote about Douglas (also known online as Kihmberlie) last September, she had around 80K Instagram followers. Now, she has over 290K fans on the platform. Of course, numbers probably aren't the most important measure when it comes to evaluating someone's artistic expression, but this should at least give you some indication of how much people adore her work.
"Posing came first, I was trying to get signed to a modeling agency," Kihmberlie told Bored Panda. "When I first started out, I was doing photo shoots with my friends and didn't have a camera of my own, so I'd plan photoshoots and we'd take pictures of each other."
Taking photos came soon after. "Once I graduated college and wanted to build my modeling portfolio and my friends became busier with school and work, I started taking photos of myself with my phone," the creator recalled. "I couldn't afford photographers as well as plans to collaborate with some photographers fell through so I figured I'd do it myself until I could afford to pay someone."
At this point, however, being both in front and behind the camera are equally important to Kihmberlie. Since the two crafts are so intertwined in her work, she's trying to perfect them equally, too. "You need both to make a great photo," she said. "The quality of the photo can be amazing but if the posing and/or expressions are dull or off, the photo becomes average and vice versa, the model can be the best in their field but if you don't know how to capture them, quality is low, the photo isn't well lit, etc, it doesn't matter."
Kihmberlie is in charge of every aspect of her shoots unless she's working with someone else on a joint project. "I keep my makeup very minimal, so that part is always easy. It gets overwhelming, especially with difficult or really elaborate shoots but it's always worth it when the image in my head turns into a reality."
