What’s the worst thing an unhinged MIL can do at a wedding, do you think? Spill wine on her daughter-in-law’s wedding dress? Get drunk and act inappropriately with the groom’s friends? Say a toast so cringy that even acquaintances get a whiff of the hatred she has for the woman her son has chosen to spend the rest of his life with?
This MIL, however, has got all of them beat. For her crazy trick, she chose to take some scissors to the bride’s veil and cut out a chunk of fabric from it. But causing such a scene wasn’t enough — she wanted more. So, when the cops came, she started swinging at them and had to leave the venue in handcuffs, making for a very memorable wedding.
What was supposed to be the happiest day of this bride’s life turned into a nightmare thanks to her MIL

Gender roles heavily shape the relationship between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law
It’s hard to imagine either the bride or the groom continuing to have a relationship with the MIL. After causing such a scene, the MIL shouldn’t expect them to want to maintain any sort of relationship, either. Nevertheless, cutting contact with family members or in-laws can often be easier said than done.
In the end, however horrible those people are, they’re still your family. Nevertheless, as the 2020 national survey by sociologist Karl Pilemer found, 27% of Americans are estranged from at least one family member. Another 2022 study explored this phenomenon further and found that adult children tend to lose contact with fathers (26%) more often than with their mothers (6%).
The relationship between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law is often difficult because mother-son bonds tend to be strong. As clinical psychologist, couples therapist, and relationship expert Dr. Tracy Dalgleish explained on the Love, Happiness, & Success podcast, gender roles play a big part in the mother-son relationship.
Women from previous generations were raised to believe their worth was tied to sacrifice and self-denial. When a woman comes into her son’s life and disrupts the status quo with a “boundaried” life, she may feel threatened or confused. What’s more, her bond with her son is one of the most consistent relationships in the man’s life, decades deep and deeply wired, making it hard to establish hard boundaries and tell the MIL “No.” Men are also socialized to avoid their feelings and confrontation, making them averse to confronting their mothers about their toxic behavior.
This groom, however, seemed pretty good at choosing his wife over his mother. Especially given the shenanigans she got up to at his wedding. Nevertheless, the couple will have to make a serious decision about whether they want a relationship with their in-laws, as both truly showed their true faces during the wedding.
Night shift hospitality workers have a higher risk of being injured or attacked at work
This probably isn’t the only juicy story that this night auditor could share. Interestingly, many night shift workers in hospitality could probably tell incredible tales of family drama and unhinged family members swinging at each other.
Working the night shift comes with an increased risk of injury in many fields. According to OSHA, night shift workers generally face 30% more workplace accidents than their peers working day shifts. Hospitality workers face danger from customers, including physical and verbal attacks.
Like this night auditor, lone workers in the hotel industry can sometimes feel unsafe at work. Their work often includes the trifecta of a dangerous work environment: working late at night, being alone, and enforcing rules and handling disputes.
The combination of alcohol, unhealthy family dynamics, and the myth of “customer is always right” puts hospitality workers at risk. A wedding guest might approach a desk clerk to share their life’s story, but, just like the mother-in-law in this story, they can be unpredictable, violent, and require intervention from the police.
“Impulsive act of revenge,” the commenters delivered their verdict
