Hi there,
My name is Liz, i am an American living in Portugal, a mother of 2, & I am a metalsmith. I learned this trade while teaching English in Nepal. I loved my students, but needed to find a way to supplement my income in order to stay locally nearby (at that time I rented an actual tent,10 kilometers from the Tibetan border, and was paid in delicious bowls of curry and ramen noodles). I taught English lessons for free to a silversmith in Katmandu, and he taught me the basics of metalsmithing, selecting gemstones, and jewelry designing principles. My work is completely handmade, each piece taking weeks to complete. Blending various artistic (cultural) styles into my jewelry, I always aim to create a product which is as delicately intricate as it is unique.
When people think of coin jewelry, it is usually Roman coins...but, ancient Eastern coins are TRUELY WORKS OF ART (all by themselves). These 15th-17th century coins are usually ALL STERLING SILVER, (the caligraphy on Indian coins, the intricacy of Nepalize geometric designs, the examples of Urdu and Arabic writing on Indian coins) and just stunning!!!! They are all so unusually gorgeous, and I try to showcase their beauty with a "modern feminine twist".
Everything I make is handcarved and I love blending antiquities w. ANYTHING! Sharing the creative process with my clients is my absolute favorite part of designing jewelry. I WANT A CUSTOMER TO feel like they have created a family heirloom to pass down to their children which ARTISTICALLY EXPRESSES THEIR PERSONAL STYLE.
It would mean the absolute WORLD TO ME to be considered or featured by your publication. I follow your featured articles, love your content and I would be so very thankful.
