Man Brings Paris To Virginia By Proposing In Front Of A Makeshift Eiffel Tower

There is only one city of love. And that’s definitely Paris. Every spring, dozens of couples travel there to experience the romantic atmosphere surrounding the city and celebrate their love. Some people even decide to turn their romantic trip into something that they will remember for the rest of their lives and propose to their partners.

However, this year, many plans and trips were canceled due to coronavirus, which suddenly isolated the whole world. That was the case of this Fredericksburg couple who had planned their romantic trip to Paris when COVID-19 happened. But even in the face of the great pandemic, this couple found something good that they will forever remember.

“Luke and I had a big trip planned for Paris to see my sister who lives there. It was a very stressful week before the trip and we were not sure if it was responsible going on vacation with everything that was happening around us. Despite our plans intending to leave in time and the uncertainty of being reimbursed for something, we decided the day before our plane left to cancel the trip, in order to keep us and others safe,” explains Erika to Bored Panda.

“As a high school English teacher, I was mainly concerned with my students and colleagues. We were very upset about the trip because we had been planning this for a while, and I always wanted to go to Paris, but things were getting worse every day and we knew we made the right choice staying at home. Luke and I have been dating for over four years, so I had a feeling that Paris would be very romantic and special, and I hoped something exciting would happen there.”

“A week after our plane left, and a week after our quarantine, Luke said he was going for a walk around downtown Fredericksburg with his brother. I thought this was a little weird, because he doesn’t like to run or exercise, especially on a Friday night after working at home all week. After he returned, he asked if I wanted to go for a walk around the city center and I said yes.” What happened next seems like a scenario from a good romantic movie: “He took me to the alley that led to Market Square, where he had drawn a large image of the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe in chalk. He put roses around the base of the Eiffel Tower and took me there. Then he knelt down and asked the question! It was so sweet and thoughtful!”

“His brother, AJ, was hiding behind a bush taking pictures. Fredericksburg has become a home for us in the past few years, so it was incredibly special to say 'yes' here. The community is so loving and nothing beats the charm of the city center. Then Luke had French food and champagne waiting for us, which he received from La Petite Auberge, a lovely French restaurant in the city center. Although it wasn’t Paris and the coronavirus turned our spring break upside down, our engagement was perfect and very special. It will always be a reminder to see good in stressful situations and stay positive.”
