This stunning table costs 2650USD! Why don’t we make one ourselves?
It’s obvious that it’s not easy to estimate price for a handcrafted product. In our opinion, it’s not expensive to spend $3000 for a table like this one.
However, we would like to know how much it costs to create it.
First of all, let’s go outside and admire the natural beauty of the fishes.
It took us 10 days to complete this table! Do you like it?
Let’s watch how we create it.
This is the storage for small pieces of wood, and they rarely use these tiny pieces.
We can buy these with 5$ and borrow their tools to cut and tidy them
Cover it with a thin epoxy layer to prevent the air bubbles from developing later.
We will need to seal all the gap of this 80-cm-mould so that the epoxy will not leak during the whole process.
Make the first coat thinly. Place the woods in when the epoxy dries.
I’ll paint the bottom surface of the table in black. All we need to now is to make the table look more alive with the gravels.
Make them stable with a thin layer of epoxy.
Green moss will be painted around the gravels when the epoxy dries.
The center looks quite empty, let's decorate it with some Fluorite.
Let’s begin with the most important step, drawing the Koi fish and the aquatic plants, layer by layer.
Layer by layer painting means that building up layer upon layer of resin and acrylic paint. It’ll create an realistic 3D effect.
The origin of 3D Resin Painting is attributed to a Japanese artist, we learned the technique via instruction video on social media and Youtube.
The process includes multiple times of layering, pouring resin, waiting for resin to dry and painting to create incredibly detailed 3D paintings.
7-layers are needed to paint the fish, aquatic plants and shrimp requires 3-4 layers.
We use a Chinese epoxy resin brand, it will need at least 8 hours to dry and paint on.
Therefore, it will take us 5 days and around 15kg of resin (~90$) to complete this table.
We’ll paint the bottom surface in black to create depth for it
The top surface will be polished. It’s quite similar to when you polish a car.
We have finished a handcrafted Koi fish table with only 100$. How do you think? Looking good, right?
