A 40 meters length dragon, gardens of pandas and flamingos, Cinderella‘s carriage, peacocks, and plenty of other creatures looking as if they have come from a fairy tale brighten up the lands of Pakruojis Manor in Lithuania. This winter the festival of light “The Great Lanterns of China” brought giant Chinese lanterns sculptures in The Baltic States for the first time.
Festivals of Chinese lanterns began more than 2000 years ago. Chinese signify the last day of their New Year celebration with this event. Time passed, and colourful objects of complex design began to be created, the festivals became popular in other countries too. Stories tell that in the XIXth century many Lithuanian lords expressed special interest in Chinese culture, and in creating connections with the Far East. This trend did not bypass the landlords of Pakruojis manor too.
