Dafne Keen recalls being offered an illegal substance at Hollywood parties as a child

The 21-year-old actress discussed her experiences growing up in the entertainment industry on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast on November 4, 2026.
Keen, who rose to prominence playing Laura, also known as X-23, opposite Hugh Jackman in the 2017 film Logan, reflected on her relationship with controlled substances.

During the conversation, Keen revealed that her exposure to illicit substances began at an age when most children would be far removed from such environments.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been drunk enough to even have a hangover. I’m such a control freak with that,” she explained.
She said witnessing certain adult activities as a child influenced her decision to stay away from them.

“Because also I think as a child actor I witnessed so much of that as a child that I just had no interest,” she continued.
Her account became particularly disturbing when she recalled being approached with an illegal substance at industry parties. Keen revealed:
“I was getting offered coke at wrap parties. Like, tiny. Like 11, 12, 13. So I saw what that was, so I was like, ‘I don’t really have any interest in that.’”

However, Keen admitted to refusing the offers.
“I was saying no, fortunately,” she added.
Her revelation has prompted questions about the environments child actors find themselves in and the responsibility adults have toward young performers.

Social media users quickly expressed concern over Keen's experience, slamming the adults who exposed her to such situations.
One X user applauded Keen for steering clear of illegal substances despite being exposed to them at such a young age.
“Yeah. They always try to corrupt child stars. I'm glad Dafne was smart enough to keep her nose clean,” they commented.

Another commenter condemned the adults involved, writing, “Disgusting people looking to take advantage of a child. I'm glad she came out safe.”
Others pointed to the broader history of child performers struggling with substance use, suggesting that the problem could begin much earlier than audiences realize.

“Unfortunately, this isn’t surprising. The reason a lot of former child actors became addicted to dr*gs is because they were offered it by adults as child actors,” one person wrote.
“Just goes to prove how disgusting Hollywood truly is,” a fourth person added.
However, Keen's childhood experiences in Hollywood extended beyond the disturbing party scene.
Dafne Keen also opened up about the creepy side of childhood fame

Shortly after her rise to fame, she received disturbing letters and gifts from strangers, some of whom reportedly followed her to school in Madrid.
“It was terrifying when people started showing up at my like, tiny school in Madrid with like, pop cameras. That was scary,” she said.

The unwanted attention was especially disturbing given how young Keen was when strangers began taking an interest in her personal life.
“I experienced quite a lot of very creepy um ped*ph*le men who would send letters and Bibles to my house and music boxes and would like follow me to school,” she recalled.
Despite these unsettling experiences, Keen also recalled the positive environment on the set of Logan, crediting her co-star Hugh Jackman for making her feel comfortable.
She described Jackman as a protective presence on set, recalling how he looked out for her throughout production.
“He’s the best number one you could ever wish for. And he’s the best on-screen dad. He genuinely felt like a sort of parental figure,” she said.
Keen further explained that Jackman paid attention to her working conditions and made sure she was comfortable throughout filming.
“He made sure that no one was ab*s*ng my hours, that I was having fun on set,” she added.
Keen will next appear as Artemis in the upcoming third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which premieres on November 20, 2026.
