After stumbling upon Kikkerland's adorable set of woodland pencils one day, my collaborating partner-in-crime, Seattle-based Editorial Stylist and Creative-Genius Christie Pedersen, and I were inspired to create a photo shoot of these fantastical woodland creatures in what we would consider to be their natural habitat!
Over five studio sessions we created four unique paper environments in which we photographed each character. We imagined what it would look like to catch these critters in their natural environments, and given that these are pencils, we thought it only made sense that their world should be made of paper.
After we finished photographing each woodland pencil in its imaginary habitat, we wanted to push their narratives a bit further by taking their portraits. Each pencil was photographed against a hand-crafted paper background that reflected their corresponding environment. After hours of cutting and pasting, our vision materialized into what you see!
We imagined each portrait as a framed picture hung on a cabin wall, as if taken by a park ranger, wildlife enthusiast, or perhaps a budding photographer who now regards them on quiet evenings at home.
