Yes, you read this correctly.
A young man dressed up as an old woman in a wheelchair threw a cake at Leonardo da Vinci‘s Mona Lisa painting at the Louver on Sunday, May 5th, 2022.
What’s wrong with that young man? What was he thinking while throwing the cake or even thinking of the idea of damaging that famous peace? What’s the point behind such a horrible act?!
Witnesses described a young man on social media as a wig-wearing man jumping out of a wheelchair attempting to smash the bulletproof glass of the painting—which was installed in the 1950s to protect it after an acid attack—, then proceeds to smear cake and throw roses everywhere before being tackled by security, saying "There are people who are destroying the Earth." Think about it. Artists tell you to think of the Earth. That's why I did this. " .. This is insane!!
Thank God, it was undamaged but left with white cream smeared across its protective glass, which can be whipped. I mean, if it wasn’t for the bullet proof glass painting protection, the Mona Lisa’s painting would’ve been damaged for good!!
To be honest, that’s a jaw-dropping scene. The crowd seemed to panic a little bit. People were there in shock. It took them 10 to 15 minutes to take action and for the security to actually take the man away. It was a lot to take in considering how historic Mona Lisa's painting would be done for good just by a piece of cake thrown by a young man... The moment was once in a million.
