Ceder forests are planted due to the expectation of an increasing demand of building housing after ww2 in Japan.
This is why you can see those kind of trees everywhere in Kumamoto. Especially, Kyusyu region is typical example.
However, as the Japanese economy got better than they had actually expected, personal expenses rose dramatically.
Corresponding to an increase in imported wood, the price of domestic wood became stagnant. Still, there are a lot of ceder forests in Japan.
