Myanmar, previously known as Burma, is a beautiful country, but its beauty has not been accessible to many due to its long isolation from the rest of the world. Myanmar has started to move forward as democracy has gradually taken over power from the junta, but the country struggles to harness the power of its people due to its ethnic conflicts and lingering junta influences.
Not only have I seen a country with some of the most beautiful scenery and architecture in Southeast Asia, but I have also interacted with some of the world's most kind-hearted people. I have seen many of the most dedicated Buddhists throughout this country and experienced incredibly spiritual moments in their temples.
As I traveled the country, I felt as if I had gone back in time. It is easy for us to fall into a trap of this materialistic culture and believe that we need material things to be have fun or to be happy. Burmese people made me realize that what you have doesn't determine your happiness, but that appreciation of what you have and enjoyment of the company of people around you does.
I like to take photos of people because we will never have the same exact moment in our lives. Every moment is different for each one of us on this earth; our lives are ever-changing. Photography allows me to capture moments of people's lives and tell the powerful story through them.
I hope you will enjoy my photographs and that this will inspire you to plan a trip to this beautiful country! Most importantly, I hope that this post will raise recognition of this country and prompt you to explore what is going on in this country to understand how Burmese people are affected by their ongoing issues.
