One of two things has to be the truth. Either our looks aren’t as unique as we think [dramatic gasp—"No, that can't be!"] or… the entire simulation we’re in is glitching out as Neo keeps doing cool stuff and we get nearer and nearer to the global release of ‘The Matrix Resurrections.’ (Keanu! We can’t wait to see you on the silver screen again!)
Our team here at Bored Panda has collected some great moments of people accidentally spotting their doppelgangers, interacting with their lookalikes, and documenting those rare moments that the Matrix’s programming makes doubles when it thinks nobody’s looking. Scroll down for some real-life glitchy copy-paste action and remember to upvote your fave pics! Do you have any stories about meeting people who look eerily similar to you? Let us know in the comments.
When you’re done enjoying the article, you should definitely give our other recent ‘glitch in the Matrix’ lists a look here, here, and here.
Bored Panda was interested to learn more about why we're so fascinated by doppelgangers, so we reached out to Freddy Slivinski, the creator of the popular Same de la Same project on Instagram that celebrates people who are celebrity lookalikes. Freddy firmly believes that seeing your double with your own two eyes "is the most surprising thing that can happen to a person" while looking like a celebrity can absolutely change your life in very positive ways. Scroll down for our full interview with Freddy, dear Readers.

According to Freddy, the founder of the Same de la Same page, there's hardly anything more shocking than seeing someone who looks just like you. "One day seeing someone who is not from your family or close to you who is so similar seems to me like something super interesting, strange, and impressive," he told Bored Panda, adding that "there is no doubt" that we'd all be fascinated by a situation like that. And seeing your doppelganger can happen literally anywhere: you'll never be fully prepared for it.

"Just imagine going down the street and seeing someone that look just like you in front of you. Wow, that is crazy! I think there has to be some explanation for something as weird as that, it can't be a coincidence. It has to have some strange explanation... and the truth is I would love to know what it is," Freddy explained what goes through a person's head when they see their lookalike. We start coming up with various theories inside our heads to explain the uncanny resemblance.

Bored Panda was curious to get Freddy's take on how we should react upon learning that we're not as unique as we thought. The founder of the Same de la Same page noted that it's a very subjective experience for everyone. Only we can answer the questions that pop up in our heads. And often, we're so intrigued, we just need to find the answers for real.

"I think it is something we have to think about because what does it mean that there is a person in the world who looks like you? Did that mean that he is a relative of yours? What is the story behind that resemblance? Is there some strange and mysterious connection between those people who are similar?" he mused. "Without a doubt, it is something very strange but at the same time impressive and special."

Freddy also opened up about the success of his celebrity lookalike Instagram page and how it's affected his life. "In recent years, thanks to my Same de la Same page, I was able to meet more than 220 people from all over the world who look like a celebrity and I can tell you for certain that that similarity completely changed their life for most of them," he said that being someone's double can quite literally change people's lives. Mostly for the better.

"It is incredible to hear their stories and how from being a 'normal' person they became almost like celebrities because of their resemblance to a famous person. People who have 'normal' jobs change their lives and start going on shows, going on TV, doing commercials, interviews, and all just because they look like someone else," he said.

And more and more people keep discovering that they have celeb lookalikes. "There are people who from one day to the next discover that they look just like a new celebrity that is now in a television series or a famous person from social media. And from one day to the next they go viral all over the world. It is completely incredible and without a doubt, it changes your life."

If you’re very lucky, you can be born looking like a beloved celebrity. For instance, a while back, we spoke to Ella Norton from the United Kingdom who looks like a carbon copy of English actress Emma Watson, best known for playing the role of wizarding world wunderkind Hermione Granger in all 8 Harry Potter films.

Ella told Bored Panda about one of her most memorable experiences with fans of Emma. “The most memorable experience with an Emma Watson fan would probably be when I visited Oxford once, and took photos with everyone there, including children in Harry Potter uniform, and even was asked to sign autographs. I always feel bad to let people down who think I actually am her! It is very surreal to have experienced a tiny bit of what it is like for a celebrity on a daily basis,” she said.

Emma’s double told Bored Panda that she gets stopped in the street all the time whenever she visits large towns and cities like London or Oxford. “I always feel so bad to let people down who genuinely think I am Emma, as I don’t want to disappoint people,” Ella said.

Ella said that she’s recently started cosplaying. “So far I’ve only really cosplayed as Hermione, but I’m looking to also cosplay Belle from Beauty and The Beast, and Meg March from Little Women. I’ve never done any professional cosplay before, but I’m looking forward to learning more about cosplay and going to conventions when I can.”

Emma and Ella are more alike than you’d think. Both are big bookworms and care deeply about social issues.

“I’m an avid bookworm, and am very passionate about studying! I love being able to share the books I’m reading and my daily studying with my following online. I also really enjoy acting, singing, and ballet,” Ella told Bored Panda.

“It’s been the dream to study at Oxford University reading English ever since I was little. After, I am hoping to go into work for human rights. I consider myself to be an advocate for human rights as well as environmental issues, and I would love to be able to make a difference in the world. That’s another reason why I like having a platform on social media; it’s great to have a voice with which I can speak on important issues.”
