You may already know that looking at images of cute animals can benefit our health in a variety of ways. Specifically, studies have shown that these photos and videos can help reduce stress levels by a whopping 50%.
But did you also know that sharing these photos can also enhance our social standing? This is according to Dr. Simon Moore, a chartered psychologist based in the UK.

Triggered by motion, these hidden tools reveal how wildlife behaves, hunts, travels, and interacts in its natural environment.
They help scientists study elusive species, understand their challenges, and develop better conservation plans.
And beyond the science, these cameras often capture rare, beautiful, or even hilarious moments reminding us why protecting wildlife matters!

In an article for The Independent, Dr. Moore provided a simple explanation: adorable animal photos make other people smile, which in turn makes us happy.
“Sharing photos that make others smile or laugh ensures that response is attributed to us (as the people who sent them the picture) and validates our ‘membership,’” he wrote.

Researcher and educator Ghalia Shamayleh provided a similar insight regarding the benefits of sharing animal photos, likening it to a behavior in Gentoo penguins known as “pebbling.”
As she explained in an interview with BBC Science Focus, pebbling is a practice where Gentoo penguins present pebbles to their desired mates as a token of affection.

Shamayleh noted that human beings do their own version of pebbling by sharing cute animal photos on social media.
“By sharing animal content with the added reference to the sender's relationship, people digitally pebble their loved ones as though to say ‘This made me think of you, of our relationship’,” she said.
