Inktober 2018 Was The Most Challenging And Rewarding One Yet

Inktober is a very special time of year for me. This is only the second time I have managed to complete the whole thing. I make my own list of prompts because I find it more inspiring and deeply personal. That is what inktober is about for me. Digging deep to find the motivation to create a finished work of art every single day leads to an immense amount of personal and artistic growth. Its stressful and exhausting but its so worth it in the end and its so satisfying to look back on the completed project.

This year was particularly difficult for many reasons. I live in a tiny ghost town nestled on top of a frozen Colorado mountain and I lost power due to blizzard conditions multiple times while trying to draw and up load each day. I got share blocked on Facebook (my main platform for my art) for "spam," right in the middle of the month. I also get incredibly painful mouth ulcers that make it really difficult to eat and I was unfortunate enough to have to deal with that during the last leg of the month. But despite all the extra challenges layered on top I managed to finish each piece each day and get it posted on time. It feels so amazing to know that no matter what the world throws at me I can mange to stay focused on a goal and complete it no matter what.

All of my work is traditional ink on paper. I probably spent about 8 hours on each piece, give or take. I love inktober so much because not only is in deeply personal but at the same time it feels like I am a part of something much greater than myself because of all the amazing other artists participating in it at the same time. I feel like I learn so much from doing it and that my skills grow exponentially just from drawing so much every single day. I encourage every artist to try inktober at least once. Its quite literally my favorite time of year.
