Playing a prank can be a fun way to make someone feel happy or liven up their mood, as long as you do it right. Some people take these practical jokes too far and don’t seem to realize how much their actions impact others, until it starts to affect their relationship.
This is what a woman experienced when her husband suddenly pantsed her while she was changing their newborn. Even when she told him how uncomfortable it made her, he refused to stop, which led netizens to uncover something sinister.
When a prank is taken too far, it can make the other person feel distressed and hurt
One day, when the poster was changing her newborn’s diaper, her husband pulled her pants down and said he would do it again, even though she didn’t like it
The woman decided to share her story online to see if other people also thought her husband’s actions were funny or not
Some folks felt the man’s actions were harmless, but if he refused to accept his wife’s boundaries, his behavior would be a red flag
People also shared similar experiences they had and revealed how important it was for the other person to respect a simple no
In a short update, the woman laughed at people’s comments and said she wasn’t going to divorce her husband
She mentioned that she and her husband had started to pants each other more, and that she didn’t mind his joke at all as he was a good guy
The woman later shared that she had to turn off her notifications as people were calling her husband immature
She explained that they had a good 11-year marriage, and that couples should be able to laugh and joke with each other
Some people made sarcastic remarks about how other netizens were advising the woman to get a divorce
Other people felt annoyed and embarrassed by the poster’s update, feeling like she was either hiding something or that her husband had posted it pretending to be her
In a post that came 16 months later, the poster revealed that she had actually gotten a divorce from her husband, and it took her a while to recognize his toxicity
The woman mentioned that she was an ex-trad-wife and that hindsight was truly 20-20
She never expected to find herself in such a position, but advised folks to keep speaking up for women like her who didn’t see the red flags
Some pranks make people crack up, while others cause a lot of pain, which shouldn’t be the end result. According to Embolden Psychology, some folks love practical jokes because they see them as a form of “play-fighting” that can help build closeness with another person.
It could also be that the person playing the prank genuinely thinks their partner will laugh and doesn’t mind scaring them or making them uncomfortable before revealing the truth. This feeling could be liberating because, for a short time, the person might feel in control of the situation.
Not all practical jokes end humorously; some can have unintended effects on the victim
Research by students at Nova Southeastern University shows that certain pranks can even cause intense emotional pain or embarrassment. This is because they may have put their full trust in the other person and feel betrayed when the truth finally comes out.
Sometimes the intention behind the practical joke also makes a big difference, and if someone does it to amuse their loved ones, it can have a positive impact. If there is malice or intent to harm or scare the other person, the victim most likely won't like the prank at all.
People who are getting pranked and don’t want this kind of behavior to continue in their relationship need to take steps to stop it. Verywell Mind says a good way to do this is to address the prankster’s actions right away and explain how their teasing or behavior is hurting you.
Rather than beating around the bush, be as direct as possible, and find a way for them to amuse themselves without negatively affecting you. This kind of redirection can help both folks feel better and serve as a compromise, rather than leaving one person feeling sad or uncomfortable.
Pranks can be a great way to keep a relationship light and joyful, but only if it’s done right
People need to realize that laughter can heal their bond, but that doesn’t mean anyone’s safety or comfort should be sacrificed for it. That’s why couples must discuss these matters in depth and share their boundaries, rather than letting resentment build up.
This is what the woman tried to do by telling her husband to stop pantsing her, but he refused to stop the behavior. That’s why netizens called him a red flag, but it took nearly half a year for the woman to realize they were absolutely right.
How would you have dealt with a prank like this, and do you think the man’s behavior was actually funny? We’d love to hear your perspective on this situation, and if you have any practical jokes you like playing.
Most people weren’t surprised to read the woman’s update and were glad that she had admitted her mistake
