About a year ago I decided to create a cartoon animation. For no particular reason just for fun. And since part of my job is creating explainer videos and motion graphics I saw no problem in that. In fact I was encouraged by that.
I decided that the main character will be a bear named Herbert who is catching a kite on a warm Sunday morning in Chinese rural area. The name came from a German word Her (sir in English) and English word Bear, combined together with a missing letter A an aditional letter T at the end for easier reading. So I gave him a name and slowly started creating my story with Herbert (Mr. Bear).
The plan was to use my free time and finish until September 2019. And after September came October, November and so on and Herbert was sitting unfinished on my hard drive. Partly because of my bad planning and lack of time. Just until March 2020 when Covid-19 virus spread and everything had to shut down. There I was at my office with nothing to do since all my projects went on pause. And because all of the media was mentioning China I remembered that we still have some unfinished business with Herbert and so I decided to finish it.
I started creating an aditional story to combine with the one already made. And in the first two weeks of isolation I made a storyboard, wrote a voiceover, got it recorded and I animated all new vector elements.
I created a mix of cartoon and explainer video animation. Since I know that learning is way more effective while having fun and also because all the schools are still closed. So this is for all you children willing to learn new things ;)
