The strangest things happened in my years of work that no one will tell you about before you enter the world of work. I've worked in several globally known organizations in Singapore. Their corporate websites said the right things, and they hired the most competitive of employees. Yet entering them was like going back in time. If you’re a woman in any workplace, anywhere, I will hopefully make you laugh. If you've never met the people in these comics, thank your lucky stars.
In this episode, I was tasked to work on a project by the director of the group, who told the group leader to introduce me to other departments in the company. By the second day, the group leader had assigned my tasks to a man hired at the same time. They proceeded to become best friends, going out for lunch together every day. He did not make any introductions, and proceeded to ignore my project drafts. Over lunch one day, his new friend asked me why I chose to work, instead of marrying a husband. When a third, young man joined the group, he was quickly brought in, and he regularly informed us of his need for promotions and money as the only son in his family.
*The dialogue in this comic is authentic Singaporean English, otherwise known as ‘Singlish’.*
